This announcement is for entry level professional engineering positions at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Newport Division (NUWC Newport). NUWC Newport is seeking candidates with qualifying Bachelor's degrees in professional engineering and a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.5 or better. Applications can be accepted from students who expect to complete qualifying education within 9 months from the date of application.
This position has promotion potential to theND-04grade level. If selected below the full performance level, incumbent may be noncompetitively promoted to the next higher grade level after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed.

This notice is issued under the Distinguished Scholastic Achievement Appointment (DSAA) Authority for Science & Technology Reinvention Laboratory (STRL), to recruit and appoint individuals with undergraduate degrees (for the ND-02) possessing distinguished scholastic achievements. As such, this notice is targeted to qualified United States citizens who are not current permanent Federalemployees. Duties and responsibilities may include:
0830 - Mechanical Engineering Series : This series covers professional engineering positions involved in the managing, supervising, leading, and/or performing professional engineering and scientific work: involving the design, development, commission, manufacture, operation, maintenance, and disposal of mechanical devices and systems and their equipment and/or components; and concerning the principles of motion, energy, force, and material properties to ensure mechanical devices and systems and their equipment and/or components function safely, reliably, efficiently, and economically.
0854 - Computer Engineering Series : This series includes professional engineering positions that require primarily the application of knowledge of: (1) fundamentals and principles of professional engineering; (2) computer hardware, systems software, and computer system architecture and integration; and (3) mathematics, including calculus, probability, statistics, discrete structures, and modern algebra. The work pertains primarily to the research, design, development, testing, evaluation, and maintenance of computer hardware and software systems in an integrated manner.
0855 - Electronics Engineering Series : This series includes professional engineering positions that require primarily application of knowledge of: (1) the physical and engineering sciences and mathematics; (2) electronic phenomena; and (3) the principles, techniques, and practices of electronics engineering. The work pertains primarily to electronic circuits, circuit elements, equipment, systems, and associated phenomena concerned with electromagnetic or acoustical wave energy or electrical information for purposes such as communication, computation, sensing, control, measurement, and navigation.

BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT FOR 0830/0854/0855: You must meet the following basic educational requirements of this position:
To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

ND-02 : Successful completion of (or will complete within 9 months) a full four-year professional engineering curriculum leading to a qualifying bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.
Selective Placement Factors : These positions have two Selective Placement Factors (screen-out) which will be used to determine minimum qualifications for the position. Applicants not possessing both Selective Placement Factors WILL be found ineligible for the position. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
