This position is located within the Commander Navy Region Mid-Atlantic (CNRMA), Public Safety, Emergency ManagementDepartment, Naval Station Newport, Rhode Island. This position is responsible for receiving and processing calls from military, civilians, and the general public. The incumbent provides police, fire, and emergency medical services (EMS) dispatching for the protection of life and property on board the installation and its Area of Responsibility (AOR).
You must be a US Citizen. Must be registered for Selective Service, see Legal & Regulatory Guidance. Suitable for Federal employment as determined by background investigation. Selectee may be required to successfully complete a probationary period. You must obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Coordinating mutual aid support based on initial calls with outside agencies to determine appropriate level of service to be rendered.
Evaluating emergency and administrative calls in order to dispatch emergency vehicles (e.g. fire, police, medical).
Distinguishing between routine and emergency responses in order to prioritize and dispatch appropriate personnel and apparatus to scene of emergency.
Determining emergency units available for dispatch by scanning status charts.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 gradelevel or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

Experience: 1) Processing incoming alarms, emergency and non-emergency calls for fire, medical and police assistance; 2) dispatching personnel and apparatus to the scene of emergencies; and 3) recording pertinent data events and logs. NOTE: THIS INFORMATION MUST BE SUPPORTED IN YOUR R SUM TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THE POSITION and providing information and initiating directions to incoming callers over the telephone and a radio network. OR Education: Successfully completed four full years of education above the high school level at an accredited college and university. OR Combining Education and
Experience: A combination of experience as described above education as described above which, when combined, is equivalent to 100% of the qualification requirement. The level of the course work must have been equivalent to at least the junior-and senior-year levels of a baccalaureate program.

Position is rotating shift position and employee may be required to work holidays, weekends, and overtime.
Position is categorized as CAT 5 personnel. All first and Emergency Responders who are U.S. Military Personnel, DoD Civilians, and/or Contractor Personnel are considered CRITICAL or ESEENTIAL personnel. Emergency call-taking and Dispatch Staff are critical and essential personnel.
Physical Demands: The work is primary sedentary, usually accomplished while the employee is seated at a desk or table. Some walking or standing may be required in the course of a normal workday but not special physical effort or ability is required to perform the work.
Work Environment: Duties are performed in a Level II area which must remain secured at all times. The work involves everyday risks and discomforts associated with normal office work.
